Cllr Andrew Farina-Childs

Independent Blackwood councillor Andrew Farina-Childs has raised more than £2,800 for St David’s Hospice as part of his latest charity walking challenge.

Cllr Farina-Childs is walking the distance of a marathon each week throughout September in memory of his sister-in-law, Annmarie Farina-Bray, who died of cancer last year. He is being joined on the walks by his niece, Tegan Farina-Bray, with the pair completing their third marathon last week.

Posting on social media, Cllr Farina-Childs thanked everyone who had donated and joined them on their routes, saying: “We have now completed the third marathon and have raised an amazing £2,810 so far. Myself, my niece, and St David’s Hospice are extremely grateful.”

The money raised will help the hospice provide services including bereavement support, home care, therapy sessions, and in-patient treatment.

Cllr Farina-Childs, who has previously raised funds for local groups including Blackwood Men’s Sheds, Blackwood Stroke Support Group and Blackwood Little Theatre, said this challenge was his way of giving something back to St David’s Hospice for the care given to his family.

He is inviting people to join him on his walks, which take place around Blackwood Showfield most weekday evenings, and will begin his fourth marathon today, Monday September 22, at 5pm.

Donations can be made via his JustGiving page.
