A 41-year-old man has been charged after a man was killed in a crash on the A465 earlier this year.

Ethan Powell, from Brynmawr, died following the collision on the A465 westbound, between Rhymney and Dowlais, which happened at around 4.50am on Saturday May 31.

The 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after a quadbike was found overturned.

In a tribute released through Gwent Police at the time, Ethan’s family described him as a “much-loved and cherished son” who “had the kindest of souls, the biggest of hearts”.

Gwent Police said a 41-year-old man from Merthyr Tydfil has been charged with multiple offences including causing death by driving a vehicle. He has also been charged with being a driver unlicensed/uninsured, perverting the course of justice and failing to stop after a road accident.

He has since been released on conditional bail to appear at court in January.

Four men – aged 34, 37, 42, 45 from Merthyr – and a 44-year-old man from Blaenau Gwent, who were previously arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender, have been released with no further action.
