It’s been three years since Bedwas Warm Place was set up to help its community amidst the cost-of-living crisis.

Based at Bethel Baptist church, the warm hub-style scheme was launched in November 2022, with those at the church wanting to do their bit to help out.

The scheme provides tea and biscuits, games and puzzles, as well as advice – all free of charge.

The church has teamed-up with Bedwas’ Co-Op store to offer more at the Warm Place.

Store manager Stephen Willey was invited along to celebrate the Warm Place’s third anniversary, alongside Bedwas, Trethomas, and Machen community councillor David Davies.

They heard from resident Tony Wintle, who uses the Warm Place. He described the venue as somewhere he finds peace and calm from the pressures of daily life.

Team leader Wendy Jones said: “The ongoing support from the Co-op has been invaluable in enabling us to provide free drinks and biscuits to offer our guests, who find the company and friendship of others makes a big difference in their lives. They feel uplifted after coming to Warm Place, knowing they have the support of others around them.” 

The church will be hosting its Warm Place Christmas celebration on Monday December 15 from 10am to 1pm, with everyone welcome for carol singing and festive treats. 

The last Warm Place before the Christmas break will be on Monday December 22, and it will start back up again on Monday January 5. It will resume its usual times of Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 1pm in the new year.
