A property near Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital could be revived as residential accommodation, after spending some time as office space.

New plans submitted to the city council by applicant Alwyn Jenkins show how 13 Clytha Square could be transformed into five new apartments.

A supporting statement from planning agents Skerryvore Designs said the house had been converted into offices but is now earmarked “to revert back to residential” use.

“It should be noted these apartments are not HMO (house in multiple occupation) units and the target clients are the professionals serving within the NHS adjacent to the site”, the agents added.

Cleaning firm plans revamp of former bank building

According to the agents, the property was originally a “premium” house but was bought in the 1980s or 1990s by the health board and used as offices for the nearby hospital.

The proposed apartments would be self-contained – four would be one-bedroom, while a fifth apartment on the top floor would have two bedrooms.

The application is currently under consideration, and can be viewed on the Newport City Council website under reference 25/0942.
