A pedestrian subway in Maesycwmmer is closed this week while a pre-planned inspection and maintenance works are carried out.

The subway closed at 8.30am on Monday January 12 and will remain closed for five days, Caerphilly County Borough Council confirmed.

The council said there is “no immediate structural concern” and confirmed there will no be impact on A467 road, which will remain open as usual.

Pedestrian diversion routes will be in place and signposted, however.

In a press release, the council said: “Scheduled structural concrete inspections of the Maesycwmmer Subway structure and north-eastern ramp are due to commence on Monday January 12 from 8:30am, resulting in a temporary five-day closure of the footpath.

“Information sought from this inspection will underpin the main remediation works of the subway, which are scheduled to start in mid-February.”
