An 88-year-old woman has been hailed an “inspiration” after hand-knitting nearly 20 blankets for a premature baby ward.

Mary Davies, who lives at Abermill Care Home in Abertridwr, donated the blankets in person to Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital, in Cardiff.

The blankets will be used to provide warmth and comfort to the babies and reassurance to their families during a challenging time.

Sue Tester, one of the lead nurses at Noah’s Ark Hospital, said: “The little ones will benefit from the love, care and attention that has gone into making each blanket.”

Stephanie Williams, home manager at the HC-One Wales-managed care home, said: “We are so proud of Mary and her generous spirit. Her warm heart and dedication have brought comfort to so many families, and she is an inspiration to us all.

“Everyone at Abermill Care Home would like to say a huge well done and thank you to Mary for her kindness and compassion.”
