A mother-of-three is helping to tackle isolation, mental health struggles and loneliness by bringing women together through a growing community walking group.

Molly Davies, 33, set up the group after drawing on her own experiences of mental health challenges and isolation. As two of her children have autism, she understands first-hand how easily women can become cut off from social life, especially when juggling work, childcare and additional needs.

“I started this for myself really,” Molly said. “I found myself isolated at home and realised how much I needed connection. What I didn’t realise was just how many other women needed it too.”

The Women Wellbeing Walks Caerphilly group meets three times a week and offers a variety of routes and distances, allowing women to take part at a pace that suits them. The flexible options help ensure everyone feels welcome and included.

What began as a small idea has grown rapidly. Around 45 to 50 women now attend each walk, with many more expressing interest in joining. The group attracts women from a wide range of backgrounds and ages, all seeking something slightly different – whether that’s friendship, support, exercise, or simply a reason to get out of the house.

For many, the walks provide a safe and welcoming space to talk openly. Molly believes that walking side-by-side makes difficult conversations easier.

“People find it less intimidating than sitting face-to-face,” she explained. “Some women are grieving, some are struggling with health issues, and others just want to meet new people. There’s no pressure – just support.”

The group is also becoming a valuable social outlet for women who find traditional social settings difficult, including those living with mental health conditions or disabilities. Molly says she has been overwhelmed by the response and the sense of community that has formed in such a short time.

The walks have been extremely popular, with numbers growing quickly – a very similar experience to what Shaun Cook saw after setting up his Men Talk Walk group.

Molly explained that Shaun has been a great help, offering advice and tips as the group continues to develop.

As the group continues to grow, Women Wellbeing Walks Caerphilly is looking for volunteers to help cover additional walks.

Safety and wellbeing remain a priority, and Molly is currently working to involve volunteers, with hopes of having first-aid-trained helpers supporting each walk in the future. Her long-term aim is to establish the group as a formal community wellbeing organisation, allowing access to grants and funding to support its continued growth.

If successful, this would open the door to organised events, trips and further support initiatives, while keeping the walks free and accessible to all. Molly is also keen to support local businesses by finishing routes near cafés and shops, encouraging walkers to spend time together afterwards.

The walks are open to adult women aged 18 and over, with dogs also welcome.

To suit different schedules, the group meets three times a week. Walks take place on Mondays at 6pm and Tuesdays at 9.30am, both meeting at Morrisons Caerphilly.

Saturday walks are held at 9am and currently meet at the Moat House pub in Caerphilly, although locations may change from week to week.

Participants are encouraged to check the group’s Facebook page, Instagram or WhatsApp group for the latest updates and meeting points.
