A memorial event to remember those who lost their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic is being held in Cwmfelinfach next month.

The Covid-19 Day of Reflection is being held at Ynys Hywel Covid Memorial Woodland on Sunday March 8.

The event begins at 10am with an informal guided walk through the woodland, followed by a minute’s reflection at 11am.

Tea and coffee will be available afterwards at Ynys Hywel Farm, the cost of which has been covered by the Covid Bereaved Families Cymru group.

The event, which will mark six years since the pandemic gripped Wales, is being organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The council’s deputy leader, Cllr Carol Andrews, who worked as a staff nurse at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr during the height of the pandemic, said that period of time had a “profound impact on communities across Caerphilly County Borough”.

She continued: “This Day of Reflection gives us the opportunity to remember those we lost, to acknowledge the strength shown by our communities, and to honour the kindness and dedication of so many people during such a difficult time.”
