Gerwyn Price has cruised through to the second round

Gerwyn Price has won his first PDC ranking title of the year with a big 8-1 win over Andrew Gilding in Players Championship Six.

Price, from Markham, has been a runner-up in two previous players championships already this year – but he went one further in Leicester on Wednesday February 25.

The former world champion stormed into round three with successive 6-1 demolitions of Cristo Reyes and Maik Kuivenhoven, which he followed up with another emphatic win at the expense of Lukas Wenig.

The 40-year-old continued his procession with another outstanding display against Scott Waites, who he beat 6-1.

His strong form continued against Kevin Doets in the quarter-finals, winning 6-4. It set up an all-Welsh semi-final clash with Jonny Clayton – which Price won 7-4.

The Iceman then dismantled Gilding in the final to move top of the 2026 Players Championship rankings.

He also climbs back into the top ten in the PDC world rankings.

“I thought I played decent,” reflected Price, who will take on Michael van Gerwen on Night 4 of the Premier League in Belfast on Thursday night.

Price wins his first Premier League Darts night of the year

“There were one or two games where I wasn’t at my best – even in the final – but I had enough in the tank.

“It’s a big night for me in the Premier League, so it’s great to get a bit of confidence by winning this and I’m looking forward to [Thursday night] now.

“I’m feeling good. Two years ago I had the worst year I’ve ever had in the PDC, so I’m defending absolutely nothing this year.

“Whoever is above me, I’m going to catch them!”
