A terraced house in Rhymney could be converted into a new HMO for four people.

New plans submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council show how applicant Vidya Giri proposes adding an extra accommodation space to the property at 25 Upper High Street, which is currently a three-bedroom house.

HMOs (houses in multiple occupation) are typically properties for single, unrelated adults who have their own private bedrooms but share other communal areas.

In this case, a ground-floor lounge would become a fourth bedroom, and no other internal changes have been proposed.

According to a supporting statement by planning agents Creation Design-Wales, the proposed conversion “seeks to provide affordable, well-managed accommodation that meets local housing needs while respecting the character of the area”.

The agents said the property has “good access” to local services and public transport links, and the proposed HMO “makes efficient use of existing housing stock to meet demand for shared accommodation”.

The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 26/0102/COU.
