A damaged footbridge that was taken down for repairs has been put back up – but it will remain closed for “several weeks”.
The Pantside Footbridge was removed in July 2025, having been damaged six years earlier – and was repaired off site before being reinstated over the weekend.
Essential safety checks, snagging works and formal inspections will be carried out in the coming weeks before it can reopen, Caerphilly County Borough Council confirmed.
The footbridge was damaged after being hit by lorry mounted crane in 2019.
In a statement, the council said: “Further works will begin shortly, including reinstating the stepped footway, replacing defective pedestrian barriers, completing masonry repairs, and carrying out vegetation management in the surrounding area.
“These activities were not part of the original commission, as the defects identified were unrelated to the bridge strike damage and the associated insurance claim.”
The council continued: “We appreciate the public’s patience during this time and recognise the disruption caused since the bridge strike in 2019.
“Reaching this stage marks an important milestone in restoring the structure for community use.
“The council will provide a further update once the anticipated public reopening date has been confirmed.”
