A wildfire which broke out in Senghenydd on Sunday evening has been extinguished – but fire crews will continue to monitor the area.
The fire was first reported at around 7pm on August 9, near Caerphilly Road.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service advised residents to keep windows and doors closed while the blaze was ongoing.
In a statement on Tuesday August 11, a fire service spokesperson said: “Appliances are no longer in attendance at Senghenydd. Crews will be carrying out inspections periodically to monitor hot spots.”
The blaze was classed as a category 2 wildfire, meaning it was moderate in severity.

In a joint statement, Plaid Cymru Senedd Members Delyth Jewell, Lindsay Whittle, and Niamh Salkeld thanked emergency service workers tackling the blaze, along with the Llangynidr Reservoir fire in Ebbw Vale.
The Blaenau Gwent Caerffili Rhymni representatives added: “This summer we have experienced heatwaves, drought, and wildfires.
“These regular wildfires show the real time cost of the climate crisis ripping through our communities.”
