Blackwood man in court after Terrorism Act arrest

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:11, Wednesday October 28th, 2009.

A Blackwood man arrested under the Terrorism Act has been remanded in custody after being charged with explosive, gun and terror offences.

Darren Tinklin, 24, faced six charges at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court of having explosive materials, a pipe bomb and an improvised firearm.

Tinklin has also been charged with owning a terrorist document.

He was arrested along with two other men at his home in Waunllwyn Crescent, Blackwood, last Wednesday.

Gwent Police arrested the three in Blackwood on suspicion of drugs offences after executing a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

After further inquiries, the Metropolitan Police Service Counter Terrorism Command was called and the trio were transferred to a central London police station for questioning.

They were arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The two other men, aged 24 and 41, who were arrested at the same time, have been released without charge.

District Judge Howard Riddle ordered Tinklin to be held until November 13.

Gwent Police has said the inquiry was not linked to international terrorism.
