Gwent Police is under investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) after the body of murdered Rhymney man Leonard Hill may have been left undiscovered for two weeks.
On June 21, 64-year-old Leonard Hill, was reported missing to the police by his social worker after he had failed to attend a local day centre since June 14. The IPCC said Mr Hill was designated a high-risk missing person because of his age and his disappearance was out of character.
Following information given to the police, officers went to a home next to Mr Hill’s and found his body. It is believed at this stage that Mr Hill may have been dead for two weeks.
A post-mortem has been carried out which revealed that Mr Hill may have been dead for two weeks.
IPCC Commissioner for Wales Tom Davies said: “My condolences go to Mr Hill’s family and friends for their loss.
“The IPCC investigation will be focussed on how Gwent Police dealt with the circumstances leading up to the discovery of Mr Hill’s body.”
David Cook, 64, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday, charged with Mr Hill’s murder and was remanded in custody. The case was adjourned until September 9.
