Volunteers honoured by Caerphilly Council

Volunteers from across Caerphilly County Borough have been recognised for their valuable voluntary work in the community.

The Voluntary Sector Achievement Awards, run by Caerphilly County Borough Council and GAVO, attract entries from people of all ages and from all sections of the community.

Caerphilly County Borough Mayor Cllr Vera Jenkins presented award winners with their prizes at a recent awards evening at the council headquarters of Penallta House.

Cllr Jenkins said: This wonderful event helps to recognise the invaluable voluntary work carried out by so many volunteers right across Caerphilly County Borough. This year’s nominations once again highlighted the dedication and commitment of this very special group of people”.

  • New Volunteer – Joanne Hillman
  • Practical Service Volunteer – Jill Court
  • Practical Service Volunteers – John and Mair Wade
  • Fund Raising Volunteer – Alyson Hughes
  • Community Chest Volunteer – Nicola Johns
  • Community Chest Volunteers – Geraint Leach and Gavin Chilton
  • Environmental Volunteer – Lynne Rees
  • Employer Supported Volunteers – Tracey Hill and staff from Barclays Bank, Newbridge
  • Young Volunteer of the Year – Stephanie Price
  • Record Breaking Volunteer – Sian Rees
  • Retired Senior Volunteer – June Ahearne
  • Retired Senior Volunteer – Clive Harrison
  • Inspirational Volunteer – Kath Toms
  • Millennium Volunteer – Rebecca Dyer
  • Supreme Volunteer – Pam Smith

Pam Smith, from Treowen in Newbridge, was crowned Supreme Volunteer for her dedication to volunteering, after running a cub scout pack for more than 30 years.
