Council clarifies Trehir waste transfer plan

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 22:13, Wednesday November 25th, 2009.

Worried residents have contacted Caerphilly County Borough Council about its plans to build a waste transfer station at Trehir, near Llanbradach.

The waste transfer station would act as a starting point for waste to be bulked together before it’s loaded on to larger vehicles ready to be taken for processing outside the area.

Residents had contacted the council after a recent article in the council’s Newsline newsletter leading them to believe that recyclable waste and landfill waste would be combined together at the site.

However recyclables will be bulked together and landfill waste will be bulked together but not the two different types.

Councillor Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for the environment, said: “We are more than happy to clarify the situation as some people were questioning why they should separate recyclable materials at home if they were then going to be mixed together at the new facility.

“Of course this is not the case and we would like to apologise for any confusion that the article has caused.

“We would like to thank all our residents for their ongoing support of our recycling initiatives.”

The proposed waste transfer station will be built on a brownfield site below the former Trehir landfill, where the council’s civic amenity site is currently located.
