A car trader has been prosecuted for having dangerous vehicles on sale at his premises in Maesycwmmer.
Alex Adrian Barwood, trading as Bargain Basement, in Maesycwmmer, was taken to court by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Trading Standards after complaints about the company.
On an inspection, Trading Standards found two potentially dangerous vehicles on sale.
A Ford Fiesta was found to be corroded around one sill with an inefficient handbrake and corroded brake pipes. The second, a Peugeot 206, had dangerous tyres. Both cars were exposed for sale on the forecourt at the time Trading Standards conducted the inspection.
Barwood admitted two charges of exposing dangerous vehicles for sale at Newport Magistrates’ Court. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and was ordered to contribute to prosecution costs of £300.
Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection said: “The sale of these vehicles could potentially have posed a serious risk to members of the public.
“Our Trading Standards team work tirelessly and will take the necessary action to help ensure that consumers who purchase vehicles in Caerphilly county borough are protected.”
