Cwmcarn Forest tenth most-visited free attraction in Wales

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 12:00, Tuesday August 2nd, 2011.

Cwmcarn Forest is the tenth most-visited free attraction in Wales, according to a new tourism report by the Welsh Government.

During 2010 Cwmcarn Forest Drive and Visitor Centre received 178,000 visitors. Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre was named top with 1.3 million visitors while St Fagan’s was second with 610,000 and the National Museum of Wales third with 358,000

Councillor Ron Davies, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet member for the environment, said: “This is an enormous boost for Cwmcarn Forest to be recognised as a major visitor destination, attracting over 178,000 visitors last year.

“It’s wonderful to see Cwmcarn up there with the big players like National Museum of Wales and St Fagans. It just demonstrates how popular the venue is for walking, cycling and for generally enjoying the great outdoors.

“It is a credit to the staff at Cwmcarn Forest who have worked hard to develop its facilities including the recently upgraded campsite which achieved four stars from Visit Wales.”
