A TV production company based in New Tredegar has been shortlisted for an industry award.

Zipline Creative has been nominated for a Celtic Media Festival Award for their BBC2 series Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience.

Last year’s series, which sees the Welsh comic tackle try out several different jobs, has been shortlisted in the Factual Entertainment category.

The award ceremony is being held in April in the Western Isles of Scotland, and has been running for more than 30 years.

Zipline Creative’s Rhys Waters, was the series’ producer and director.

He said: “We were really pleased with the response the last series had and its fantastic just to get the nod of a nomination.”

The series featured comedian Rhod Gilbert facing the challenge of doing jobs like Bin Man, Mum, Hair Dresser and Soldier. Aired in February 2010 on BBC Wales, it performed strongly in TV ratings with the first episode getting an audience of 1.4 million.

The series was then picked up by the BBC Two network for a national screening.

Nathan Mackintosh, the series’ joint producer and director, said: “We were on thrilled that the series did well, it was our first national TV series so we pulled out all the stops to do the best job we could. The funny thing is we’ve been nominated for the first series just as we are in the middle of making the second series.”

Comic Rhod Gilbert added: “It was great when the lads told me we’d been nominated, although we barely had a chance to celebrate as we were beavering away on series two. It would be brilliant if we can raise the bar again for next year.”

The next series will see Gilbert take on the roles of butler, farmer, tattoo artist and fireman, the team are currently editing all of the episodes ready for broadcast on BBC One Wales this March, followed shortly by a UK wide showing on BBC Two.

The company has previously worked with Gilbert producing his extras for his stand-up DVD.
