Blackwood Library is to get a £215,000 refurbishment.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet agreed to release £50,000 of money from its education and leisure budget at a meeting last week.

The money will be spent on building improvements, complete internal refurbishment and the introduction of a new self-service kiosk and security system.

The final cost of the project has been estimated at £215,000.

The cabinet also agreed a proposal to create an Immediate Response Team as part of social services to provide urgent support for families in the county borough at times when they most need it.

The team would consist of a manager and five support workers. The initiative will aim to prevent further rises in the number of children being looked after and being included on the child protection list.

Cllr Judith Pritchard cabinet member for social services said; “This is an excellent initiative as the new team be on hand to provide support and advice for families 24 hours a day.”

Cabinet also approved the arrangements for the Rural Development Plan’s ‘Budding Business’ grant scheme. The scheme is available for businesses employing ten people or less in the 14 rural wards and six service centres of the county borough.

Applicants can apply for funding via a formal application process that can be up to a maximum of £30,000 capital and revenue and for up to 80% of total project costs.
