The local authority, in celebration of this year’s Tour of Britain cycle race heading to Caerphilly, wants to get 1,000 cyclists in a line along Crescent Road in Caerphilly town. The current record stands at 916.

Cycle clubs including Maindee Cycle Club, Newport Velo, Cwmcarn Paragons, New Tredegar Nomads and Welsh Cycling have all signed up to come along and take part, as have Saddleback, TOB Team Cars, ToBi Tour, Media Motos, PS Cycles, Castle Cycles, EC Cycles and Martin Ashfield Cycles.

Also in attendance at the event will be Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Community Safety Wardens as well as officers from Gwent Police who will be available to security mark bicycles.

Sustrans, Braces Bakery, GAVO and numerous departments from Caerphilly County Borough Council will also be there.

Cyclists who would like to take part in this event are asked to come along to Crescent Road in Caerphilly at 12noon on Monday August 15.
