Public meeting called after rape of Llanbradach girl, 11

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:21, Tuesday January 19th, 2010.

A public meeting has been called following a serious sexual attack on an 11-year-old girl in a Llanbradach park earlier this month.

The meeting takes place at the village community centre in Llanbradach, at 8pm on Wednesday.

It will give residents a chance to meet the senior investigating officer in the case, Detective Superintendent Geoff Ronayne, and Superintendent Jon Burley, who is responsible for day to day neighbourhood policing in the Caerphilly County Borough.

A Facebook group publicising the event, which was called off last week because of the bad weather, has attracted more than 600 members.

Residents have already been airing their views on recent incidents via the group and tomorrow’s meeting is expected to packed out.

There have been frank discussions on the site about the location of The Garth Owen Project and Jubilee House in the village.

Ward councillor Colin Mann said: “We felt it was extremely important that residents had the opportunity to raise any concerns and ask questions of senior police officers following this very serious incident. I hope residents will take the opportunity to attend.”

The Garth Owen Project provides housing for care leavers, offenders and those at risk of offending.

Jubilee House provides housing to people suffering from mental health problems.

Representatives from both projects will be present at the meeting.
