A mother-of-two who was hospitalised with her children after a car smash has contacted thanked locals who helped in the aftermath of the accident.

Julie Taylor, 31, from Newport, was travelling with her husband, five-year-old daughter and their four-month son along A468 Newport Road in Trethomas on Sunday January 23 when the crash happened.

All four of them were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Julie said: “We had been visiting my in-laws for Sunday lunch and were on our return back home.

“The members of the public and local people were so helpful with my kids, especially my daughter who was in the accident. My daughter is five and my son is four months, both are recovering very well.

“I want to reiterate the importance of kids being in appropriate car seats and buckled in as these saved my kids especially the baby.

“I just want to say a big thank you to those who played a vital part in helping looking after both my kids until the help arrived – especially the man who pulled my daughter through the door of the car. She always speaks about him.

“The amount of help we had from people living in the area or who witnessed the accident was amazing.”
