Building services specialist SCS Group to race the sun to help sick children

Staff from building services company SCS Group, based in Tredomen, are getting ready to raise money for children’s charity.

On September 3, staff from the firm will be taking part in the Race the Sun challenge to raise funds for Action for Children.

Teams start the challenge at sunrise and attempt to finish by sunset. Two SCS Group teams will cycle a total of 50 miles (80kms), hike to the summit of England’s second highest mountain Helvellyn at 3,116ft (950m) and canoe a 2.5 miles (4kms) course on Thirlmere.

The company aims to raise £3,000 to help medical research aimed at stopping the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability.

SCS Group Managing Director Allan Meek said: “A number of our team are new or expectant parents so this is a cause close to our heart. It may sounds suspiciously like a bunch of overgrown kids going off on a jolly and expecting others to pay for it in the name of charity. As Mother Teresa would have said, we’d like people to think it and donate anyway.”
