Regeneration blueprint for Caerphilly County Borough agreed

Caerphilly County Borough Council has agreed a new regeneration blueprint for the county borough over the next three years.

The Regeneration Framework was agreed at full council on Tuesday night and council leader Lindsay Whittle has said it will deliver results.

Councillor Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration and countryside, said: “The regeneration of the whole of Caerphilly County Borough is a top priority for everyone, both in economic terms as well as ensuring people are ready and able to contribute to the well being of the county borough.

“A key factor in this mix is effective partnerships. Our work with all agencies and our relationship with the Welsh Assembly Government are critical components to guarantee the successful regeneration.

“We have already seen a number of hugely successful regeneration schemes implemented in communities such as New Tredegar, Blackwood and Caerphilly who are all seeing the benefits.

“We hope to duplicate this success in other areas like Bargoed and Risca with the help of this new framework.”

Council leader Lindsay Whittle also welcomed the agreed framework and said: “The new framework builds on the progress achieved to date through the council’s previous regeneration strategy the Smart Alternative.

“We are in no doubt about the difficult challenges at a time when there has been a sharp decline in the global economy.

“However we are confident that by taking a more holistic approach to regeneration it can and will deliver results focusing on key issues such as housing, education, health and social care.”
