27,600 households in Caerphilly County Borough claim winter fuel payment

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Thursday February 24th, 2011.

The Department of Work and Pensions has revealed that 27,640 households in Caerphilly County Borough claimed a winter fuel payment in the last year.

The extra payment can only be made if a household claims. The deadline for such claims this year is March 30.

Steve Webb, UK Minister for Pensions, said: “Most eligible people will have already received their Winter Fuel Payment. However, anyone who has not had a payment, and who thinks they may be eligible needs to act quickly. The deadline for claims to be received for this winter is 30 March.

“We kept our promise to protect winter fuel payments and they will help over nine million households this winter with heating costs. This is on top of additional help through cold weather payments if temperatures plummet.

“These payments should give people the confidence to turn up their heating during the cold weather.”

Most households with someone born on or before July 5 1950 will receive £250 towards their winter fuel bills. Households with someone aged 80 and over will get £400.
