A campaign by Bedwas-based Peter’s Food Service to get the corned beef pasty recognised as the national dish of Wales will hand in a 2,000 name petition to the Welsh Assembly.
The petition will be delivered at 10.30am on Thursday August 25 at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay and will be received by South Wales East regional AM William Graham.
The Conservative politician said: “Peter’s has already gained a huge amount of backing for their campaign, which shows how important a part of our national heritage the Welsh people feel the corned beef pasty is.”
Since it launched the campaign back in April, Peter’s has petitioned the support of the public by going on a national tour of supermarkets and events – including the recent Royal Welsh.
Clare Morgan, marketing controller for Peter’s, said: “It was always our intention that, with enough support from the public, we would try to win backing for the campaign at the highest level. Being able to present the petition to the Welsh Assembly is a fantastic opportunity to add a major boost to the campaign, and we’re thrilled to have gained William Graham’s support.”
Peter’s will also be providing free corned beef pasties from its pie-mobile to passers-by outside the Assembly on the day, and hundreds more will be distributed around Cardiff city centre.
