Caerphilly farm owners and rural residents targeted by criminals

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:00, Monday February 28th, 2011.

Police in Caerphilly are urging farm owners and residents living in rural areas to be more vigilant after a spate of burglaries over the last month.

In total six farm premises have been broken into in the Caerphilly area – with nine quad bikes stolen from the premises.

Thieves have targeted a small number of rural and isolated premises, particularly farms and smallholdings, during the evening.

Inspector Alan Webber said: “We would advise occupiers of similar premises to take sensible precautions, such as ensuring quad bikes are chained to fixings and outbuildings are locked and secured with good quality locks.

“Good lighting such as a PIR light is also a useful deterrent. Invisible property marking aids such as SmartWater or similar aids can assist in terms of identifying stolen vehicles. I would also advise owners to photograph the vehicles and record identification numbers and markings.”

People should report any suspicious activity to Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
