The Winding House in New Tredegar has been officially recognised as a top visitor attraction by the Welsh Assembly and tourism organisation Visit Wales.

The museum was assessed through the Visitor Attraction Quality Assessment Service (VAQAS), on various aspects such as the welcome, friendliness and efficiency of staff, the general appearance of the site and the quality of interpretation offered to visitors.

The assessor praised the “fascinating insight” offered to visitors by the exhibition galleries and historic winding house, and its “excellent facilities”.

Cllr Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration and planning said: “I am thrilled that the Winding House has received approval through the VAQAS scheme. I hope it will help us further develop its potential as a museum and visitor attraction, and it is a real a real credit to the team at the Winding House to have received recognition for the quality of visitor experience on offer.”
