New look Caerphilly Visitor Guide gets St David’s Day launch

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:00, Thursday March 3rd, 2011.

The Caerphilly Visitor Guide 2011 has received a St David’s Day launch at Caerphilly’s Tourist Information Centre

The guide has been updated with a modern look and feel and there is more emphasis on the county borough’s countryside and heritage.

The new guides have been flying off the shelf at The Visit Caerphilly Centre, with visitors commenting on its fantastic content and stunning photographs.

Councillor Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration and countryside, said: “It is wonderful to see Caerphilly County Borough presented so strikingly in this new guide and it makes me very proud to both represent and live within this area.”

Meanwhile, Caerphilly tourism has also been receiving a boost from Cllr Davies’ Assembly election rival Owen Meredith, from the Conservatives.

Mr Meredith held an event in London celebrating St David’s Day and promoting Caerphilly as a tourist destination.

He said: “I am determined to match my words with actions. That is why this week I have taken Caerphilly to London, speaking to a London audience about the beauty and heritage Caerphilly and the Welsh Valleys has on offer.

“To help our economic recovery and bring new jobs into the town, we need to make the most of our assets. Caerphilly has the largest Castle in Wales, and one of the biggest in Europe. With a tour of Welsh castles topping the ‘must do’ poll for tourist, we are in danger of missing a massive opportunity.”
