More than 200 cans and bottles of booze have been seized off underage drinkers in the Rhymney area.
The four-week summer operation by Gwent Police and Caerphilly County Borough Council has been hailed a success by its leaders.
Police officers, Trading Standards workers and community safety wardens targeted Friday night street drinkers, shops selling alcohol to teens and people buying drink for those underage.
In total, 45 people were stopped and searched for alcohol, 200 cans and bottles were confiscated, one person arrested and fined £80 for a public order offence and another fined £80 for buying drink for underage people
Inspector Huw Jones, from the Bargoed and Rhymney Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The partnership operation was introduced to respond to the concerns of local residents. Antisocial behaviour remains a PACT priority in the area and this operation has contributed to the significant decreases in this type of behaviour in Rhymney.
“We want to remind the communities of Rhymney that disorder and underage drinking will not be tolerated and our approach is to target those youngsters found in possession of alcohol, but just as importantly those adults who are supplying them.”
Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection, said: “Multi agency operations such as this really help lay down a clear message that we will not allow the antisocial behaviour of a small minority to affect the quality of life of the majority.”
