An aspiring young poet was crowned Bard at her school’s St David’s Day eisteddfod.

Nia Parsons was crowned Bard of the Rhiw-Syr-Dafydd Primary School, Oakdale, and became the first winner to sit on the new Bardic Chair which was donated to the school by the outgoing Chair of School Governors, Cllr Allan Pritchard.

More than 500 pupils at Rhiw-Syr-Dafydd Primary School took part in the hugely successful eisteddfod, which was brilliantly led by headteacher Mike Glavin.

There were a number of high-quality submissions for the arts and crafts throughout all the age groups and the standard of performances at the eisteddfod, which was held throughout the day, was high.

Some of the other highlights of the day were the performances of Seren Rudge, an extremely talented young harpist, and Alice Mee-Bishop, a singer, with an amazing voice.
