Caerphilly County Borough Council’s catering team has been shortlisted for a marketing award after introducing a scheme to encourage schoolchildren to eat healthier food.
The catering team are up for an Educatering Excellence Award for its ‘Points Mean Prizes’ scheme which lets children collect points whenever they choose a healthy meal. At the end of the school term, the points can be exchanged for prizes.
Cllr. Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education, leisure and lifelong learning said: “It is an important job ensuring the young people of this county borough are well educated and a nutritious meal in the middle of a school day is a very important part of that.
“The catering team are extremely dedicated and their fantastic efforts have managed to substantially increase school meal uptake over the past year, which means that even more children and young people are enjoying the benefits of a healthier lunch.”
