Council tenants invited to Transfer Information Day

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:00, Thursday October 6th, 2011.

Council tenants across Caerphilly County Borough are being invited to an information day about the council’s proposal to transfer homes to a new social landlord

If voted for by the tenants, the council’s housing stock of 10,980 properties will be transferred to a housing association called Castell Mynydd.

This would unlock Government funding to spend on the homes and bring them up to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard.

The council recently revealed that if tenants voted for the stock to remain in its control, then it could also afford to upgrade the homes – albeit two years later than Castell Mynydd.

The South Wales Argus reports that this development could mean the vote will not go ahead.

The information day forms part of the council’s informal consultation with its tenants

Council staff, the Independent Tenant Adviser PS Consultants and members of the Caerphilly Tenants’ Panel will be available to answer any questions.

Tenants will also be able to hear from tenants from other areas about their experiences of the transfer process.

The event is being held at the Oasis Life Centre, Bryn Road, Cefn Fforest, Blackwood NP12 3LJ from 10am to 2.30pm on Thursday, October 13.

Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided and transport is available if required.

Tenants are asked to call the council’s Freephone on 0800 141 2834 if they plan to attend and to arrange free transport.
