A Caerphilly man has won a national library art competition by turning old books into a ukulele.

Stuart Boydell from Caerphilly joined winners from across Wales at a recent special awards ceremony at the Senedd in Cardiff to pick up his prize.

Mr Boydell was presented his award by Gavin and Stacey star Ruth Jones, known for her role in the series as Nessa.

The actress, who is Wales’s National Libraries Champion, said: “The creativity and imagination shown in all categories is amazing – they would certainly inspire me to visit a library.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to meet the winners and to see the wonderful work they have produced.”

Mr Boydell, who performed in front of the audience with his unique ‘Library Ukelele’, said: “I never expected to reach the final and was over the moon to win.”
