Islwyn MP Chris Evans teamed up with staff, pupils and local Councillor Robin Woodyatt to say G’day to new headteacher James Harris during an Australian themed assembly at Maesycwmmer Primary School,.

Year 5 and 6 pupils, dressed in fantastic Australian costumes, presented a short history of the country before parents and staff joined in with a rendition of Australian themed songs.

Mr Evans said: “I was delighted to join the students in saying G’day to Mr Harris and giving him such a warm welcome to Maesycwmmer Primary School.

“I have visited the school several times and I am always impressed by the enthusiasm of the students and the commitment of the staff. This assembly demonstrated just how hard the students work.

“I am sure Mr Harris will do a great job as new headteacher.”
