Former Plaid Cymru leader Dafydd Wigley paid a whistle-stop visit to Caerphilly yesterday to support local general election candidate Lindsay Whittle.

Dafydd Wigley, who served both in Parliament and the Welsh Assembly, joined Councillor Whittle on the campaign trail to talk to voters in the town.

Cllr Whittle said: “It was great to have the support of Dafydd Wigley, who is respected across the political divide.

“I’m really encouraged at the reaction of the people to Plaid’s campaign in Caerphilly. I believe the public are ready to put their faith in Plaid, having lost all respect for the London based parties who have been mired in scandal over MP’s expenses.”

Caerphilly’s council leader, who is standing in his seventh general election, also campaigned in Bargoed on Wednesday but party workers’ efforts were brought to a sudden halt by blizzard-like conditions.

“The weather in Bargoed was really unbelievable, particularly given the fact that the sun was shining in Llanbradach. This election promises to be an interesting one if this is the weather we can expect.”
