Motorists in Bedwas warned to keep items out of view

Motorists in Bedwas are being urged by police to take extra care with security after a recent increase in vehicles being broken into or damaged.

Gwent Police reports that in just one week, eight vehicles were been targeted during the evenings. Three of which had been entered by bending back the door. Two transit vans were also broken into and tools stolen.

Officers are now reminding residents not to leave vehicles that contain items left on display – in particular, around the Bedwas, Trethomas, Machen and St James ward areas.

Sergeant Gareth Jones, of Bedwas Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Items left on display are very tempting to opportunist thieves and we want to encourage drivers not to leave any items visible. I would suggest putting valuables in the car boot, or even better take your belongings with you. We have stepped up patrols to target those responsible for vehicle crime but if residents have any information then please contact the Bedwas Neighbourhood Policing team or contact us via 101.”
