Pupils at Ysgol Gymraeg Cwm Derwen, in Oakdale, recently welcomed Islwyn MP Chris Evans to a special book signing of an edition of their first published book.

Students ranging from ages five to 11 took part in the project with some submitting short stories and poetry, while others wrote accounts of their summer holidays.

After receiving his special signed edition, Mr Evans said: “I was delighted to attend the school to congratulate the young authors on their fantastic book.

“Being able to read has a massive impact on a child’s self confidence and the skills the students used to create this book will stay with them as they progress through the school.

“I am very much looking forward to reading their first published work and I am looking forward to the second edition.”
