Lindsay Whittle, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council and Plaid Cymru’s Elfyn Llwyd have criticised the Conservatives’ proposals for efficiency savings as another sign that the Tories are trying to deceive the electorate.
Elfyn Llwyd, who is standing in Meirionydd Dwyfor, said that the Tory proposals demonstrated just how far removed the Conservative party is from the needs of Wales.
Mr Whittle said: “Yet again the Tories are deceiving the electorate, whether this be due to ignorance or intent.
“The freeze on recruitment is something that has already been agreed by local authorities across Wales. This is double accounting. Just because you announce something twice, it doesn’t mean you’ll get twice the savings.
“Their proposals to stop the hiring of additional workers demonstrates complete ignorance of how the public sector works and can only result in cuts to essential public services.
“Many of the essential services carried out by these workers are seasonal, such as additional home carers to look after older people who have injured themselves suffering falls on ice in the winter.
“By proposing to get rid of these workers, the Tories are proposing to cut the essential services that help and protect vulnerable elderly people, children at risk and communities as a whole.”
Plaid’s Elfyn Llwyd MP, leads the party’s Westminster group said: “Plaid’s priority in this election is to put the needs of pensioners and the most vulnerable in our society first, the very people who benefit most from the essential services the Tories are determined to cut.
“Meanwhile as we learned on Thursday, one of the clear beneficiaries of the Tories’ proposals is the man who is making them.
“This just goes to show how far removed the Conservatives are from the needs of the people of Wales.”
