Tributes have been paid to an eight-year-old Blackwood boy after he was killed when the bicycle he was riding collided with a bus.

Luke Matthews was riding his bike in Emlyn Terrace, Talywain, in Pontypool, on Thursday afternnon when the accident happened.

In a statement, released through Gwent Police, his family said: “In loving memory of mummy’s angel.

“You will be missed by your brothers Sean and Owen. You were the life and soul of the party with your singing and dancing.

“Luke, you were our funny and beautiful boy, generous to a fault with a mischievous sense of humour.

“He loved playing with and sharing everything he had with his twin brother Owen and older brother Sean.

“He was loved by everyone who met him and he’s made an enormous impression on us all.

“He will never be forgotten by his friends and family.”

Following the accident the young boy was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport where he died. No-one else was injured.

Inspector Lee Ford said: “This is a tragic incident and a full police enquiry will take place into the circumstances, our thoughts are with the boys family at this time.”

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the accident to contact them on 101.
