Students at The College Ystrad Mynach scooped prizes for their construction skills.
Nine students took part in the South East Wales heat of the Construction Skills Wales contest, held at Merthyr Tydfil College, with five going through to the final at Coleg Ceredigion at the end of this month.
Dean Jones, 17, of Bedwas, took 1st prize and Jacob Fortey, 18, of Machen, took 3rd in the brickwork challenge.
Cory Davies, 18, of Cefn Fforest, completed the team’s success with a 3rd prize in painting and decorating.
Shane McDonell, 19 of Merthyr Tydfil, and Robert Ford, 20 of Mountain Ash, took 1st and 2nd prize respectively in the carpentry and joinery challenge.
Reg Hughes, The College Ystrad Mynach’s head of technology, said: “The Skills Competition Wales is about craftsmanship and being the best of the best in your chosen vocation or trade.
“To be placed within these competitions is an exciting start to these young mens careers and a fantastic way to showcase their talents.”
