The waste was dumped at the Heads of the Valley Industrial Estate on Thursday August 13.

An investigation has been launched by Environment Agency officials and council staff after two lorry loads of waste were dumped on an industrial estate.

Two large lorry loads of fly-tipped waste was reported to Caerphilly County Borough Council at the Heads of the Valley Industrial Estate in Rhymney on Thursday August 13.

Officials are now investigating where the waste could have come from.

The Environment Agency Wales said the waste appeared to have come from local businesses and a home refurbishment,

Caitriona Harvey, leading the investigation, said: “It looks as if the two loads are from one company trying to make a fast buck. It seems to be organised and pre-meditated.

“Whoever has done this has made has made a profit and left the local taxpayer to pick up the bill of clearing it.

“We want anyone who saw anything suspicious or recognise the waste that has been dumped to help us find the culprits. Any information will be used in the strictest confidence and you can remain anonymous.

“We are carrying out a detailed examination of the waste and the surrounding area to find any evidence that will help us to trace the fly-tippers. This kind of activity is undermining legitimate local businesses, makes the place look a mess and costs money to clear up – we are determined to catch those responsible.”

  • If you have seen anything or suspect that the waste could have come from your business call the agency’s 24 hotline on 0800 807060.
