Lewis School Pengam wins at Pearson Teaching Awards 2011

Lewis School Pengam has won first place in the ‘Film My School’ competition at the Pearson Teaching Awards 2011 with a prize of film equipment worth £5,000.

The ‘Film My School’ competition is in its second year and encourages creative students to show how their school is a great place to be .

At Lewis School Pengham, the film was made by boys studying GCSE Media led by Liam Gough, with a lyrical sound track by sixth former Nathan Battersby who is studying A-Level music.

Deputy headteacher Chris Parry said of Liam: “He’s a bit of a media guru and is definitely the Steven Spielberg of this operation.

“It’s a fantastic little film for showing a glimpse of what life is like here.”

As part of their prize, the winners are invited to a reception Downing Street reception on Wednesday.

The school will receive the top prize of film equipment worth £5,000 plus a gold Plato – education’s symbol of excellence.

The film that won the school the award lasts just under two minutes can be viewed below.
