Residents reminded to secure homes after burglaries

Residents in Bargoed and Blackwood are being reminded to close and lock their doors and windows following a number of burglaries in the area.

Over the last week, eight houses have been targeted in the Fleur-de-Lys, Pengam and Tir-y-Berth areas.

Most of the properties were entered overnight and either had unlocked front doors or the keys had been left in the back of the lock.

A number of items were taken from the downstairs areas of the homes, including a television, a wallet, a handbag, purses and a camera.

Three cars were also taken from outside the properties, after the keys were stolen from inside the homes.

Detective Sergeant Chris Thorne from the Blackwood Neighbourhood Support Unit, said: “Before you go to bed, it’s important that you make sure that all of the doors and windows in your home are secure and the keys have been taken out of the locks and left somewhere safe and out of sight.

“Even if you’re in the house in the day, it’s a good idea to keep your doors locked.

“We are currently investigating the burglaries, and if anyone has any information, then please contact Gwent Police by phoning 101.

“You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
