Thieves have stolen eight wrought iron garden gates from the Woodfield and Mynyddislwyn areas of Blackwood in just one week.

The thieves took the gates from homes overnight and officers are reminding residents not to leave items such as bicycles, garden equipment and garden tools out.

Inspector Mark Smith, from Blackwood Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The community have noticed scrap dealers are not just targeting businesses but taking items from the gardens of their own homes.

“Items have included not just gates, but bicycles, swings, trampolines, garden equipment – to name a few. The Police and community in Blackwood will not stand by and become a victim of crime.

“We ask all residents to report any information they may have in relation to this activity to Gwent Police. We are increasing patrols in the area as well as conducting stops on scrap metal vehicles – we will not tolerate these sorts of crimes in the Blackwood area.

If you have any information on metal thefts in the area, then call Gwent Police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

They have a "cast iron reason to take em", so they can coin it in.

The scrappies welcome "them" with open arms, so easy to dispose of.

Why oh why, are they so easy to be taken off, deliberate manufacturing ploy perhaps, so they can sell more when they get pinched, hmmmmm.
