Environment Agency Wales warns of flooding

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:45, Wednesday November 2nd, 2011.

Environment Agency Wales is advising people to be alert for possible localised surface water flooding across South Wales throughout Thursday November 3.

Heavy showers and longer spells of rain moving eastwards from the south west later today (Wednesday) and during Thursday will bring a low risk of surface water flooding from midnight tonight and for the following 24 hours.

Strong winds causing possible drainage blockages by falling leaves and the already saturated ground will contribute to the risk of flooding.

River levels could rise and flood alerts may be issued but the likelihood of flooding from major rivers is very low.

The Agency is advising people to listen to local weather and traffic reports and updates on the radio or TV, or if able to, view the latest information on the Met Office website.

Care should also be taken as driving conditions may be hazardous, and people should listen to traffic reports for advice and for any disruption locally.

For the latest on flood alerts and warnings go to www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/31618.aspx or call Floodline 0845 988 1188
