Councillor Vera Jenkins, the Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough, has completed an abseil in aid of her chosen charity Llamau.

The Mayor took the 100ft the plunge to raise money for the South Wales homelessness charity.

Also abseiling from Penallta Rocks were the Chair of Llamau’s board, Angela Gascoigne and the charity’s Chief Executive, Frances Beecher, along with the Mayor’s consort Rob Jenkins, Llamau staff, supporters and a number of young people and women which the charity works with.

Cllr Jenkins said: “I don’t take jumping from cliffs lightly, but I was really happy to do it for Llamau. I’ve chosen them as my Charity of the Year while I am in office as they make a significant difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in Wales. All the money I’m raising for them will go to supporting their work in Caerphilly.”

The abseil raised in excess of £2,000. Llamau’s Chief Executive Frances Beecher said: “It was possibly the most terrifying things I have ever done, so I would like to thank the Mayor and everyone who completely the abseil from the bottom of my heart. You are all amazing.”

  • Llamau is currently celebrating 25 years of providing supported housing and a variety of other services.
If you’d like to support Llamau, text the word YEAR25 followed by the amount you’d like to donate (e.g. YEAR25 £10) to 70070.

Well done Mayor Vera Jenkins! Abseiling is not a feat to be taken lightly by non-rock climbers. I am very pleased that she was able to raise so much money.
