Catering and hospitality students raised £335 for Macmillan Cancer Support with a coffee morning.

The team of students offered bacon rolls, welsh cakes and other snacks, freshly prepared by them as part of their course in the Crosskeys campus training restaurant.

Nineteen-year-old student Lauren O’Garra, from Newport, said: “It was a really successful morning; we raised hundreds of pounds whilst using the skills we learn in class to offer a quality service to the generous customers.”

As well as serving up delicious snacks, students offered a delivery service to those across the campus that wanted to support the charity, but couldn’t make it to the restaurant.

The team managed to raise a total of £335 so far, with donations still coming in.

Catering lecturer Caroline Davies has run the event for the past four years, and was particularly pleased this year.

She said: “We’re really pleased with the support that staff and students have shown this year. We were busy all morning serving over 100 customers in the restaurant alone and the students worked really hard to make sure it all went smoothly.”

Braces Bakery kindly donated bread and cakes for the event.
