Caerphilly Trading Standards warning over fake Christmas goods

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Tuesday November 22nd, 2011.

Trading Standards from Caerphilly County Borough Council are warning people to be aware of fake sporting goods being sold online.

Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection said: “Unfortunately big games and sporting events often present perfect opportunities for criminals who target passionate fans keen to see their sporting heroes and to buy merchandise – our Trading Standards officers are working alongside their colleagues right across the country to stop fraudsters having a field day at the expense of our enjoyment.

“Help us and yourself by the using the Trading Standards Institute checklist to help make sure you don’t end up out of pocket.”

The checklist comes in the form of a handy acronym.

C Choose your shopping outlets and websites carefully
H Help yourself. If a deal looks too good to be true then it probably is
E Ensure you look for authentic branding and holograms
C Contact the authorities if you are concerned
K Keep a copy of your order and receipts

To report a trading concern in Caerphilly County Borough, call Trading Standards on 01495 235 291.
